No emacs in shell and can't install local

I am dismayed to find there is no GNU Emacs in my shell account. I tried building from source and ended with this error:
Dumping under the name emacs
emacs: Can't allocate buffer for /home/(my home)/emacs-24.5/src/temacs: Cannot allocate memory
make[1]: *** [bootstrap-emacs] Error 1

I looked into using yum localinstall but needed root access.
What can I do? GNU Emacs really ought to be a system wide install.

Hello,

Sorry for the problem with installing GNU Emacs. Unfortunately, that cannot be installed on a shared server. You can upgrade to a VPS or Dedicated server and install it there. There default editors in SSH are VIM and NANO. Apologies again that we can not provide a solution for emacs as a default installation for for shared server accounts.

If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.
