New customer trying to add new site

I just signed up for a VPS and lets say my main domain was maindomain.com. Before I do anything with maindomain.com, I want to setup another site that will ultimately be, for example, seconddomain.com. I don't want seconddomain.com to be live yet, so I just want to add my files via FTP and have them show up at a temporary URL so I can make sure everything is good before I ultimately point a "live" domain to it.

How do I do this? I think seconddomain.com should have its own CPanel (right?), so I assume step 1 is to create a new account in WHM? Will that WHM process ultimately give me the temporary URL and FTP info?

Hello, Thanks for the question about adding a new site to your VPS but not wanting it to be live. Adding a URL in WHM is not "temporary" unless you're using it in that manner. Adding a domain in WHM automatically creates an account and FTP account based on the cPanel user name and password. For the steps for creating a cPanel account in WHM, see How to Create a Cpanel Account. Remember, that if you use a different URL to develop your site, then you need to be prepared to migrate your site or be able to change the URL for your website when development is complete. The steps for making these changes depends on the how you're creating the website. I hope this helps to answer your question, please let us know if you require any further assistance.
