Raw Access Logs & Bad Bots

I have been receiving over-usage notices recently and the resource team points to bots and spiders as the culprit. When I download raw access logs on a shared hosting plan the files are not readable on windows 7, stating the DOS raw stats program is not compatible with the 32 or 64 bit computer. Any ideas on how to find the bad bots and spiders so I can create IP deny?

Hello, Thank you for your question on how to open the raw access log files. They can be opened with a standard text editor. I do not recommend NotePad as it does not format them and they come out as one giant block of text. Using a program such as NotePad++ or Sublime (both free) is better as it separates each log onto its own line. It is much easier to read that way. Kindest Regards, Scott M
