When I set up an unread search folder for my gmail account in OUtlook 2010 it shows all of my gmails (read & unread) as unread. So instead of seeing a few emails it is showing me literally thousands. Gmail is ste up as an imap account and in all other respects is working well.

Hello, Thank you for your Gmail question about creating folders in Outlook 2010. I spent some time looking into this, and found many reports of problems with Outlook syncing with gmail. Make sure you are subscribed to the IMAP folders in Outlook. On this post in the official Google Forum, they suggest "There seems to be an idiosyncrasy with the Outlook query tool in Subscriptions, so that unsubscribed folders show up in the "Subscribed" tab. I individually selected each system folder under the All Folders tab and clicked "Subscribe," and that fixed it.." If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below. Thank you, John-Paul
