Password failure for password protected files on our domain

We have noticed that many of the user name and passwords that we have on your servers fail to work properly after many months of them being in your system. Is this issue associated with some of your upgrades of the past 6 to 8 months? What else can it be associated with?

Hello dehreth, Thank you for your question. I checked the password protected directory option in cPanel, and it is working successfully. I am not aware of any updates we have performed that would stop your passwords from working. Typically in a VPS, or shared server setting, everyone would be affected by a change like that, and no one else has notified us of an issue. When you password protect a directory, it essentially just adds the code to your .htaccess file. This means modifications to the .htaccess file could affect this setting. Adding the user again, will put the code back in the .htaccess file, this is covered in Step 5 of the "Password Protect Directory" guide. If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below. Thank you, -John-Paul
