We have an existing Joomla 1.5 site with another host which has lots of content, which we want to transfer. I want to start with a fresh install of Joomla 1.5 on Inmotion, and transfer our content into it. The former site uses the same url as the new Inmotion site will have, vhiconnect.org. I have 2 questions:
1) In the new account setup panel, I'm asked whether I want to install Joomla 1.5 on vhiconnect.org (our domain name) or at 173.247..................246.4. If I choose vhiconnect.org, will it install on the Inmotion server or on the current site with the former host? Of course, I don't want to overwrite the files on the former site.
2) Once i have Joomla 1.5 installed, what is the best method for me to transfer our content files from the old site to Inmotion? Should we use a backup extension like Akeeba or should I use Inmotion's "Transfer" option in cpanel?
Thanks for a quick response.

Hello Stejohns1, Thanks for the questions! If you are running the installation program on our server, specify the URL and it will install on our server. I don't believe that you could actually run the installation and install at your old host though you could specify the other IP address. The installation program would need to be able to access that IP and upload the installation files to that location. You will not overwrite the files as long as they are not already in the destination folder where you are installing Joomla on our server. If you have an Akeeba backup for your previous Joomla installation, then I would make sure that it is installed here, and then follow the instructions for restoring the Joomla installation using Akeeba. We have some instructions for Akeeba in our Support Center, but it is for Joomla 2.5. You can find the documentation here. I highly recommend using the software for recovering the installation though. If you were using a cPanel-based system in your previous host, you may want to considering doing a cpanel restore. Using a cPanel restore, you wouldn't have to install the software since it will be completely restored based on what you previously had installed at your old host. In order to use this option, you can review the instructions for migrating your website from another host that uses cPanel. You will need to notify our live support team of the request through an email to [email protected] (as per the instructions). If you have any further questions, please leave a comment with more details and and we will be happy to review the issue for you. If we answered your question and it's a great solution for you, please make sure to mark the answer as the BEST answer. Or please leave a comment or note of thanks so that we know your issue is resolved or ongoing. Arnel C. Community Support Team
