How to stop spam comments arriving in inbox

Over the 3-4 days I have seen an increasing number of comments waiting for approval arrive in my inbox for my wordpress website. The comments are obviously spam but I'm receiving about 100-150 of these a day. At the same time I got the following message on my wordpress admin panel.

"Akismet has detected a problem. Some comments have not yet been checked for spam by Akismet. They have been temporarily held for moderation. Please check your Akismet configuration and contact your web host if problems persist."

According to the configuration page, Akismet is working correctly. All servers are accessible so I am now contacting my web host as advised.

Are you able to assist with my problem?

Hello Adamhiroshi, Apologies for the increased spam. It has been a frustrating issue for all of us. There appears to have been a possible spam increase on our server traffic that has been very closely watched by our Systems team. Check Status of InMotion Hosting servers in order to see an update on the issue. Unfortunately, there's not an immediate thing you can do, other than to possibly place a validation requirement for comments on your Wordpress site. This would prevent auto-emailing to your Wordpress site. A good example of this would be using reCaptcha. Check this article out for more information: Setting Up ReCaptcha in for Wordpress.
