public or hidden?

I am developing my website using WordPress. When I design a page, to save it I hit a button called Save & Activate. I sure hope my site is not public yet. I assume I have to actively publish the site, and that it remains hidden until that time. Is that true? Does Activate just refer to within the site I am developing>

Hello CurrentRob, When you are working on a web product, the page is IMMEDIATELY active. This s not a "develop and then publish" model. The web hosting service provides a space that is immediately accessible through the internet. Fortunately, there are options for you. Go into your Wordpress Dashboard and then look for the PLUGINS section. Find a wordpress maintenance mode plugin, go through the documentation and use it. This prevents your site from being accessible by the outside world. There are many options for this plugin (there are various ones available) - they all basically do the same thing - they keep people from viewing your Wordpress site while under construction.
