Support for Multiple Logins?

I am an IT consultant attempting to select a new web hosting platform for my client. Inmotion is a candidate. But I have a couple of questions.

Chiefly, does cPanel (as implemented at Inmotion) support multiple logins for a given account, and different security permissions for each login? For example, as webmaster, I would control the master account that gives full access to all cPanel functions. However, I might want to allow other users (i.e. 1-2 reps from the client) to login and perform limited functions on cPanel (ie. administer the eCommerce store).

Would this be allowed?

Thanks much.

Hi clearviz, Thanks for posting your questions. I'm happy to explain how cPanel works to you. cPanel does not support multiple logins on shared hosting. So you'll only have one login to cPanel that has full access to the account. As for giving access to other individuals, it really depends what you are looking for. If you are looking to give them access to files, you can set each rep a FTP account and specify the root folder for that account. By specifying a root folder, that particular account will only have access to that folder and any child folders within the account. This is the best way to limit their access to specific folders. As for administering e-commerce stores, typically when you install an e-commerce solution such as Magento or OpenCart you'll administer the store via an admin control panel via the web. The admin backend to the store is not handled through cPanel itself. In the store admin itself, you can create as many user accounts for the store as you'd like and personalize what permissions and access each account has. cPanel is used to do overall server functions like creating e-mail accounts, working with basic DNS records, working with files, and database management. VPS and dedicated hosting works a little bit different. VPS and dedicated servers allow you to work in the admin interface called WHM. WHM allows you to create multiple cPanel accounts (not logins) and perform overall duties related to managing the server itself. I do want to take a minute to talk to you about what sets InMotion Hosting apart from other web hosts. Our tech support department operates 24/7/365 and is located in the United States. We are always here to help whenever you need it. We have different means to contact us such as email ([email protected]), live chat, and phone. We also have the department which I work for called Customer Community. While we do not operate 24 hours a day, we are here roughly from 8am - 6pm Eastern time. What makes us different from tech support, is we're writing all the tutorials and user guides on our support website. Right now, we have around 1,000 articles to teach customers like you how to do most everything from building a complete e-commerce solution to working with cPanel and WHM. This is a huge advantage since you have access to us (customer community) via the questions and answers section on the Support Center and we've got some really great experts in many of the popular content management systems (WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, etc.) and shopping carts (Magento, PrestaShop, OpenCart, etc.) available. Personally, I work mainly in e-commerce so I'm here to answer any questions you may have about working with shopping carts. If you need advice on which shopping cart best suits your business needs, we can help you make that decision since we know the software. Our other staff are really comfortable with other web solutions, so if you ever have a question you always can contact us. I hope I've answered your questions and provided you a little insight into InMotion Hosting. If you need further assistance or have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Thanks! Tim S
