Root access

Ok, so I'm on your VPS1000 plan and need root access to change one mysql parameter. I'm reading the agreement and notice this statement: **In order for root access to be relinquished, a server move or format may be necessary for security reasons. A system administration fee of up to $120/hr may apply for these situations** . Please explain. My understanding from previous documents was that all I had to do was ask for it and take responsbility for it. This doc seems to say I have to pay for it. My NS are already the ones mentioned in the article. So does that statement apply to my plan? Do I have to have a server move and pay $120?

Hi kleeh,

Thanks for getting back to us. I'm more than happy to explain what that phrase means in relation to gaining root access. For any reason, after accepting root access to the server, if you wish to "give up" root access, there could be fees associated with it. Since having root allows you to change server settings, if you want to relinquish root, it could cost up to $120 per hour for us to re-configure your account.

Also, if you make changes with root access that makes your server inoperable we may charge up to $120 per hour to correct the server issues.

There is no cost for gaining root access, it's free. If you want root access, you can request it by sending an email to [email protected]. Please be sure in the email to verify your account with the last four digits of the credit card on file or the current AMP password.

If you need further assistance, please feel free to contact us.

Thanks!
