What's the default TTL setting; how can it be changed

I've been given MX records to enter. The supplied records include Priority, FQDN, IP, and TTL.

Priority and FQDN is no problem. I assume the IP address will be dynamically resolved (and does not currently resolve), but what about the TTL. I can't set it, so what's the default and what do I need to do if I have to change it?

Hi timatidg, The default TTL for MX records is currently set at 14400 seconds, or 4 hours. To change an TTL: Shared Hosting If you are a shared hosting account, your cPanel unfortunately does not include a way to change the TTL. If you email our Support Department ( [email protected] ) with your request, they can make this change for you. Be sure to include in your email: 1. Your cPanel username or the primary domain listed on the account 2. Account Verification such as your current AMP password or the last four digits of the current credit card on file VPS and Dedicated Hosting If you are on a VPS or Dedicated server, if you access the Advanced DNS Zone Editor you'll see an option to change the TTL. I hope this helps, feel free to post any follow up questions in the comments at the bottom of this page. Thanks! - Brad
