Migrating from WordPress.com when my main domain is also registered through WordPress.com

I followed the instructions to install Wordpress using Fantastico and that setup just fine. The next step was to go to my registered domain and install Wordpress on it, but my domain was purchased through Wordpress so obviously it redirects me to my .wordpress.com website. Not sure how to proceed installing Wordpress.org.

Hi KristenM, Because your domain name is not yet pointing to InMotion Hosting, you'll want to install WordPress to your Temporary URL. You can find more information on that here: Installing WordPress using your Temporary URL Once you have done that, you can take the necessary steps to migrate your wordpress.com content to your new site on our servers, following the instructions here: How to Migrate your WordPress.com site to InMotion Hosting Once you have migrated your content and tested with your temporary URL, you can then update your WordPress config file so that it is no longer setup on the temporary URL. Directions for doing that can be found at the bottom of the article referenced above: Installing WordPress using your Temporary URL Once everything is setup on our end, you'll want to edit your domain's nameservers (you'll do this through wordpress.com) and point the domain's nameservers to: ns.inmotionhosting.com ns2.inmotionhosting.com You can find more information on doing that here: WordPress.com - Domain Management You can find more information in general on updating your nameservers here: DNS and Nameserver Changes Please keep in mind that after you update your nameservers, the change can take up to 24 hours before it takes full effect. I hope that helps! If you run into any issues or have any further questions, feel free to post a comment on this page and we'll be happy to assist further. Thanks! - Brad
