Why are there two directories for our HTML files?

My apologies as this is probably a very dumb question. Why are there two directories for our HTML files? There is a directory called "public_html" and one called "www" and it seems that you can use either one. I going to guess that the answer is just, "Because we thought it would be easier for you." I apologize but it is bothering me. (Is this what is called an alias?)

Hi Maria,

Thanks for asking your question. I'm more than happy to help you today. You actual document root is the public_html directory. The "www" directory is merely there as an alias and displays the contents of the public_html folder. You'll notice if you put something in the public_html folder it will then display in the www folder as well.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you need further assistance or have any more questions.

Thanks!
