I just updated my php version and now my website won't display. I get "There has been a critical error on your website." How can I recover?

Hi Bob!   I have this same problem after updating PHP.  I took a backup before the update, but right now, it will not let me login to the WT-ADMIN page to do a recovery or look at the plug-ins.  Any ideas on what to do next? I'm new to all this so I apologize in advance for dumb questions.  Thanks!!

Hello Michael,

I replied in regards to your login issues in your previous reply.  Just want to make sure you're also logging into the correct page.  It should be the WP-ADMIN, not the "WT-ADMIN".    When you change PHP versions, make sure to clear your browser cache in order to view the WordPress site using the new version.  Otherwise, it will try to pull up the older "cached" version in your browser.

If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

UPDATE: Just found out that it works fine up to version 5.6 but anything 7.0 and above gives the above error.

Hello Bob,

Sorry for the issue with the error after updating.  You need to find the components that are not working and update it so that it works with the updated version of PHP.  If it's a plugin, then you may need to isolate it by turning off plugins completely and then trying to replicate the error as you re-activate them (if you are using plugins).  You may also need to turn on debugging in order to get a more explicit error.  Or, you may need to speak with a developer to see what's causing the error on your site.  Use the options that you have to get a more explicit error that will lead to its cause.  When you do so, you'll be able to update if it's available,  or remember a component and replace it to keep your site functioning correctly.
