How Do I Download Backups?

Unable to download backup files from Inmotion cPanel nor using Filezilla

My webhosting is expiring soon and I am trying to download the backup files. The download from backup manager keeps giving me error. I requested for your support team to help me do a backup and they keep the file in public_html. When I tried to download from the directory, the 'download' button is unresponsive. Funny but i can download other files, just NOT the backup files. Contacted your chat support and was asked to use Filezilla and offers no more help.  Now, Filezilla is all set up and connected, but when I tried to transfer the backup file out, again failed! I can download any other file but NOT the backup file.

My new webhosting has been hinting that Inmotion is holding my website hostage? Is it true? I have not been able to download any backup files at all since 13th May.

Thanks for getting in touch with us!

Here is our guide to getting started with FTP. Use this to get all of the settings you need to set up an FTP connection. You will use those settings in an FTP program like FileZilla. That's the program we recommend, as it is free and can be installed on a variety of operating systems. From there, you can directly download your backup after you connect to your server!

Hello Bnee,

Sorry for the issue with being unable to download the backup file.  cPanel's file manager unfortunately doesn't give you much information when the file is being downloaded or if there is a problem.  Generally, when the file manager is dealing with a large file, then it may take a long time for a response.  I highly recommend that you download a free FTP application like FileZilla and then use it to download the file.  You can immediately see what's happening when the file is being transferred.  If you require more time to download the file, you can always contact our support team and explain the issue to them.  You can get more information about FTP with our Getting Started with FTP guide.

If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

Kindest Regards,

Arnel C.
