Set up a blog without Wordpress

I want to set up a personal website that will function as a science/mathematics blog. That means it needs to have Latex support, excellent readability, printer compatibility and be fast and clean. I've tried WordPress, but customizing it doesn't only require dozens of plugins that significantly affect performance, but, in case I need further personalization, the source code of themes and WordPress itself is chaotic, unnecessarily bulky and the API is, well, not desirable. I'm now trying out ProcessWire, the API is beautiful and I think it can be fully adapted to my purposes, but there is some significant code to modify and add before that.
I'm not looking to develop a blog myself here (I don't want to spend programming time on this as I'm working on other web projects), so I wanted to know if you had an out-of-the box blogging solution which I can adapt with minimal tweaking (and preferably which code I can modify in case I need to add a few things). If not, I'll just learn my way around Process Wire.

Hello, Thanks for the question about setting up a blog without WordPress. There are many other options like Tumblr or Medium, but you will need to decide what works best for you. Check out this post for alternatives to WordPress. If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know. Regards, Arnel C.
