How Does Shared SSL Work?

Hi,
While purchasing PowerPlan I was told about free shared SSL on it. Please correct me if I am wrong!
I read the tutorial to setup SSL on WordPress site changing the permalinks form http to https
It did not worked!

I believe that it need to be setup from Cpanel SSL/TLS Manager. Then I read your article about using a shared SSL and it says about purchasing SSL certificate from Account Management Panel.

So,
Does it mean that Free Shared SSL mean that feature only provided to us but we need to purchase SSL certificate from AMP?
What is difference between InMotion free shared SSL and SSL certificate that we purchase from AMP?
Does free shared SSL mean the free one and the one we purchase are dedicated? If Yes, Where do I get shared SSL certificate?
How do I setup SSL from Cpanel SSL/TLS manager? (Basic information will be OK!)

These questions will be useful for lots of confused newbie like me regarding SSL on InMotionhosting plan where free Shared SSL is included. So, please help!

Thanks!

Hello sslamsal,

Thank you for your question on the shared SSL. The shared SSL for shared servers is already active and in place. You do not need to do anything else to set it up. For sites created with tools like WordPress, it can be a bit of a pain, however.

The reason is that the URL for the SSL is something like: https://biz###.inmotionhosting.com So to use the shared SSL for your site, you would need to set it up as https://biz###.inmotionhosting.com/~YourUserName
instead of your normal domain name.

If you want to use your domain name, as most people do, then you would want to purchase a dedicated SSL for your site. That can be done through the AMP as you mentioned earlier.

Kindest Regards,
