None of the changes I make in .htaccess are being picked up. I have just transferred a Joomla 3 website over changing nothing. Site works fine using non user frieldly URL.

But it does not working using friendly SEO. I have tried everything but after a few tests I realised by .htaccess file is not being interpreted. Is there a server wide configuration which stops local directory level .htacess settings from being executed.

Hello RogerM, Sorry for the issues you're facing with your dedicated server not interpreting the .htaccess file so that your SEF is working. By default all of our servers are set up to allow .htaccess to work. I noticed that you had been working with our live support team. They had escalated the issue up, and the senior tech advised that the issue appears to be related to re-writes that are existing in the .htaccess file. Have you tried using the default Joomla 3.1 .htaccess file? Also, just to rule out the .htaccess file not working, try using a simple command like DirectoryIndex (at the top of the .htaccess file). Make it look for a file that you KNOW doesn't exist in your directory. For example: DirectoryIndex Welcome.html. Then if it's looking for that file, we know that .htaccess is actually working and you can remove that command. Please try resolving the issue by trying these two things first. Then we can proceed from there if necessary. I hope this helps to answer your question, please let us know if you require any further assistance. Regards, Arnel C.
