Commercial Class Server Upgrades – 2020 Release Notes

As web hosting technology continues to improve, it is important for any web hosting company to keep pace with industry trends. At InMotion Hosting, we are dedicated to providing state-of-the-art hardware for our dedicated servers. Earlier this year, we upgraded the hardware of several of our products to much success. Now, we are excited to inform you that we have upgraded two of our Commercial Class enterprise hosting plans. In this article, we will explore some of the server upgrades coming to the CC-1000 and CC-2000 enterprise hosting plans and what it means for your hosting experience.

Topics Include:

Better CPU

Our Commercial Class servers will be receiving upgrades to the Central Processing Unit (CPU) in the form of Intel Xeon Silver 4214 with a clock speed of 3.2 Ghz. This is a notable increase over the Intel Xeon Silver 4110 with a clock speed of 3.0 Ghz. As the CC-2000 uses a dual CPU configuration, both processors will be upgraded to the new Intel Xeon Silver 4214 chipset. As with the CC-1000, the clock speed of these processors offers a performance increase of .2 Ghz. This extra computing power will make your websites more responsive and allow you to use more demanding software in the operation of your server. For anyone in need of extra computing power, the value of this upgrade is clear.

More RAM

In addition to increased computing power, our CC-1000 and CC-2000 servers will have an increased amount of Random Access Memory (RAM). This hardware serves as temporary, rapid storage that can be used for websites and web applications. In all cases, the amount of RAM offered by each plan has doubled, allowing your server to store more data in flash memory that can be retrieved more rapidly than data retrieved from the hard drive. As modern software becomes increasingly RAM-intensive, it is obvious why having double the RAM would be a valuable upgrade to any high-performance server.

NVMe vs SATA

One of the most significant changes to the hardware configuration of the Commercial Class servers is the inclusion of NVMe solid state hard drives. NVMe drives interface with the motherboard via the PCI slot on the motherboard, as opposed to the SATA interface that is used for traditional hard drive disks (HDD) or solid state drives (SSD). As such, NVMe boasts enhanced transfer rates, allowing your server to read and write data to the hard drive much more rapidly than before. For servers that perform storage-intensive operations, having an NVMe drive can yield significant performance gains over the traditional SATA configuration.

Conclusion

In summary, it is clear that the server upgrades being implemented will enhance the performance of the Commercial Class dedicated servers and allow them to keep pace with ever-more-demanding online commercial endeavors. By raising the servers to the industry standard, Commercial Class servers offer a greater value and provides additional room for growth. With the additional resources available through these server upgrades, you should have everything you need to create responsive and reliable websites and applications. On top of all of this, you’ll continue to receive the same great hosting experience you’ve come to expect from InMotion Hosting.
