Thoughts on “How to Create an Email Account in cPanel

    He creado cuentas de correo institucional, para asignar a cada departamento. Deseo pre-determinar la firma en cada uno de los correos incluyendo el logo de la empresa. Adicionalmente debo incluir la leyenda para la política de protección de datos. No encuentro un comando por donde realizar esta acción.

    Por otra parte no puedo importar la lista de contactos, la tengo en un archivo cvs, realizo la importación y aparece un mensaje informando que fue exitosa, pero previamente hay otros mensajes que dicen que ya existe y no se importo. Sin embargo, cuando deseo ver la lista de contactos, no hay ninguno.

    Me podrían ayudar?

  • I want to create an email account from one of my Inmotion domains other than my primary domain, but don’t see a way to do it. In the cPanel Add Email Account tab, there is no drop-down menu or other option that displays all my domains, just the primary domain.

    • The only way the drop-down will appear is if you have multiple domains already configured in cPanel. You will need to first configure the domain(s) you would like to add email accounts (as addon domains). Then you should be able to select the domain from the drop-down menu that appears.

      You should be able to create an email account for any domain that you have added to the cPanel account. If there are multiple domains/subdomains, you select this from the Domain drop-down menu while creating the email account.

    • If you’re unable to see the Email Accounts section in a cPanel account, it may have an assigned package and feature list that doesn’t show it for some reason. You can check the package for the cpanel account in WHM List Accounts.

  • I just set up email accounts with forwarders for new members of my team. How do I send them a welcome email with their temp passwords, etc.?



    • I recommend sending it to them via another email address with secure email. Once they set up the email account or access Webmail, they can begin using the address to correspond with people.

    • If you are logged into the email account you can edit an unsent email. Otherwise, you’d have to re-send the email in the edited form. If you’re referring to the actual NAME of the email account, the answer is that you cannot EDIT the account name. You can delete it and then re-create it.

    • You could create the email account as described above, then have both users connect their clients (outlook, mac mail, thunderbird, etc.) using IMAP. This stores the emails on the server by default and allows everyone that connects to see the same inbox and folders (such as sent, drafts, etc.). An easy way to accomplish this is to have the group use webmail to check/respond to emails.

  • Can I setup an email account and make it a “catch all” account for a domain. I have one from another provider that allows me to setup one email account and it recieves all emails on that @domain. 

    Is this possible on my inmotion email account?



    • It is possible to create a catch all however you would need to have a VPS or Dedicated server with root access to enable this. cPanel has a forum post explaining how to do this here

  • i created an email account but when i do the setting on Samsung Note 4 it gives me “Authentication failed” though the password and email is ok. how can solve this problem

  • I just created a new email adress. No problem from there.


    The problems starts when I try to recieve an email. My inbox seems to be empty all the time, tried sending from yahoo and gmail, and same result. I have 0 e.mails on my inbox.

    But in the other side, I am able to send mail, which seems strange. I even tried to reply those test emails from my gmail, and same happens. No inbox.

    Does it take a while until it’s setup so I can get the emails to my inbox?

    • Hello,

      Your inbox should work immediately, If you are able to send by not receive then the MX records for your domain are most likely not pointed to your server. You will want to ensure that you have pointed the MX records to the server you created the email account on, DNS changes will also take 4-24 hours to propagate so you may not be receiving the email if you have made changes to those recently. If you can tell us the domain you are working with we can take a look and see where the MX records are pointing for you.

    I expect a very low volume of email to be sent, but I may need around 100 (or more) new email addresses.  Will I be able to make this work for me?

    • There is no hard limit to how many email accounts you can create. So, this should not be a problem.

  • Thank you John-Paul.  I’m currently hosting my website with inMotion through the Shared Business Power Plan.  I have 4 email boxes with that domaiin that is currently hosted by Netfirms.  Can you please advise how to transfer those boxes to my inMotion account?

      Sorry for the problem with the email account. The problem is most likely related to the MAIL folder that belongs under your HOME folder. If it has been deleted, then you will not be able to create an email account. You can restore a folder called “mail” under the HOME folder using cPanel File manager, but if you’re missing more than that, then you should contact technical support to restore the base folders that are part of every account.

    • By design, the catch-all is set to :fail: in order to prevent spammers from sending large amounts of unwanted mail to you. Our newer servers no longer allow you to set your own default address to prevent spam overflow, so we recommend using forwarders or filters to route your mail instead.     • You wouldn’t “change” the email account. You would create a new email address and delete the old one after forwarding your emails to it. You could set up a forwarder as well. To ensure anyone that emails the old address, is forwarded to your new one.
