As cPanel removes SquirrelMail starting in version 78 after not being updated since 2013, VPS owners may want to be proactive in forcing users to get comfortable with Horde or Roundcube. Below we cover how to disable SquirrelMail from WebHost Manager (WHM).

  1. Log into WHM.
  2. Select Tweak Settings from the left.

Note: You may need root access to view this option.

  3. Search "Squirrelmail".
  4. Select Off to the right.
    Turn off SquirrelMail

Now cPanel users logging into Webmail won't be able to view mail using SquirrelMail. Note that this doesn't uninstall SquirrelMail. These steps also apply to disabling Horde and Roundcube is desired.

When will Squirrel Mail be discontinued in CPanel on Inmotion Hosting? I just saw this and have been on vacation thru the month of January 2019. I just didn't see it or noticed it in previous times I logged in.

Hello Wayne,

Thanks for the question about Squirrel Mail. As of this date, I know that it has been removed from the servers. It was deprecated by cPanel last April, so it has been an oncoming thing. Squirrel Mail can still be installed separately through Softaculous. If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.
