If you have configured your iOS device to receive and send emails, then you will need to learn how to manage email messages. This guide will help you learn how to send and read email using iOS.
How to Send an Email
Follow the steps below to send an email message from your iOS device.
- Open the Mail app.
- Tap on the New Message icon in the lower-right. This icon looks similar to a pencil and paper.
- Type a recipient into the To field.
NOTE: You can begin typing information (name, nickname, website, or email address) that is stored in your Contacts app. Any email addresses that match will appear for you to auto-complete this field. Alternatively, you can tap on the + icon to add a recipient by selecting from the Contacts app. - OPTIONAL: Tap on the Cc/Bcc, From field to add a Cc/Bcc recipient or to change the email address for the From field. You can add them just as you did the To field.
- Tap on the Subject field and type a brief description of your message as the subject of the email.
- OPTIONAL: You can tap on the bell icon in the Subject field to set notifications for this thread.
- Tap into the main field of the email address and begin typing out your email message content.
NOTE: You can use the editing options by tapping on the < symbol. This will display a tray of options to choose from for adding/editing content in your email message. For example, use the Aa icon to modify the format of your text. - When you are finished editing your message, tap on the blue up arrow to send the email.

- Open the Mail app.
- Tap on the Mailbox that contains the message you would like to read.
- Tap on the email message that you would like to read.
