Adding an Image or Logo to Your Signature in Horde Mail

With the new upgrade to the Horde mail interface, you can now have images in your signature. For companies, the most common image to add is the company logo. Follow along with the instructions below as we demonstrate how to add your logo (or any other image) to your email signature in Horde.

Note that as of Horde Internet Mail Program (IMP) version H5 (6.2.8) the maximum total image size is 30 KB.

  1. Log into your Horde mail interface.
  2. Navigate to your Mail PreferencesOnce inside, hover over the cog image and then Preferences. Select Mail from the pop-up menu.
  3. click on the Personal Information linkNow click on the Personal Information link.
  4. This page is where you set your signature. Scroll to the bottom area where the HTML editor is. This is the one with many different buttons. Find the image button and click it.
  5. Add an image to your email signatureEnter the image link in the URL field. You are not able to upload the image directly to the server, so you will need to know the exact address of the image on your server. For example, this image is located at “https://example.com/images/logo.png“. There are various optional fields here you can use to further customize the logo’s size and/or its position.
  6. Add a link to your email signatureAfter adjusting the options on the Image Info tab, it is a good idea to make the logo a link back to your website. Configure this tab for your logo to point to your website.

Below is a shot demonstrating the logo in a very simple test email. Note that you need to be sure to send the email in HTML format (by selecting a checkbox for HTML mail when composing) in order for the logo to be in the signature. If this is not done Horde will choose the text-based signature if you have created one.

Email in Horde with a Signature

  1. When I test my email signature that has an image, the image is coming in as an attachment on several different email providers (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, etc). On Gmail, the image isn’t even displaying next to my contact info. It is just an attachment. Is there any way to prevent the image from coming in as an attachment? Also, the signature is displaying very different. In Outlook the image is on top of my contact info. Yahoo the image is to the left and Gmail it’s not displaying at all.

    1. Hello, and thanks for contacting us. Unfortunately, no. This is a setting receiving email users may change whenever they’d like for better security, accessibility, and overall user experience.

  2. Hi how do i prevent my signature (whencreating in html) from appearing as an attachment on the mail.

I just want it on the bottom of the mail, i dont want a huge great attachment image of it showing at the top of the mail as well.

    Claire

    1. Hi Claire,

You would need to open the message in HTML view. There is no way to force someone’s email client to do this. They must configure this on their own device.

  3. Hi

Can you tell me please how I can prevent sanding any kind of attachment if all of them are set up in the body of an email ?

    Thank you

    1. We are happy to help, but it is not clear what you are trying to prevent. Please provide additional information on what you are trying to accomplish.

      Thank you,
      John-Paul

  4. How to set logo image on the profile pic besides email? for example all your profile pics on staff have a circle image.

    1. This profile pic used on the Support Center depends on gravatars. However, it has been disabled for performance issues. We are working improving the Support Center and the profile pic may be re-enabled in future iterations. For more information on Gravatar, then please see this link.

    1. Thanks for the question about using your URL to upload your image. In Horde, go to the Setting section, Compose New Template, Check HTML email (that’s the only way you can embed an image in an email), then click on the icon in the toolbar that appears. It will request the URL of your image for uploading.

  5. On my email signature using Horde I am trying to setup website info, facebook link etc….how do I import the link and rename it so it doesn’t show like www.facebook.com. etc….I just want it to say facebook, twitter, snapchat..e.tc…

    thank you

    1. You need to use an HTML signature to do that. It will need to use HTML code like this:

      Facebook

The code looks like this: <a href="https://www.facebook.com/inmotionhosting">Facebook</a>

The link will show, but the actual path is not visible.

  6. I was able to re-size the image so that it’s under 30 KB. And I thought everything looked to work this time, but it still isn’t. Guessing the issue is with the URL address for the logo.  So how do I find the URL address for the image of the logo?

    1. The URL would be based on where the image is located in the account. If it is directly under the main folder, then it would simply be formatted like ‘example.com/image.jpg’

  7. It’s much larger than that. Guess I didn’t realize it was that large. And have no idea how to make it or compress it so that it’s smaller.

    1. You may be able to find a website that will do it for you. Just do a search on terms like ‘image resizer’ or ‘image optimizer’ and many different ones will come up for you.

  8. Everything seemed to working well until I hit the “Save” button. A message came back that said my logo was too large in the HTML…even though I sized it down in the preview and it looked fine.

    1. Carol, please note that the signature section mentions that, “maximum total image size is 30 KB”. How big is the image that you are trying to use?

  9. Hello! I have added a fine logo signature to my email, and like everything about it but the bright blue link color rectangle that is outlining my logo. Would you please tell me how to remove it? Thank you so much!

    1. We are happy to help but will need some additional information. Can you provide an example of the HTML code you are using to add your signature, or possibly a screenshot of the issue?

      Thank you,
      John-Paul

  10. Trying to upload a signiture and everything looks right, the image appears in the signature box but when I go to create an email it isn’t there.

    1. Try simplifying your path as much as possible to make sure the resource can be found easily. For example: domain.com/signature-images/image.jpg. Also, it’s possible the client you are using to test the signature is being instructed to withhold the image download until instructed otherwise.

  11. I don’t know how can I get an url of a photo. I have my logo saved on the computer and don;t know how I can manage that.

  12. Hello all,

This simply doesnt work. I’ve tried saving it in several places on my server (Bluehost) and when that didn’t work I uploaded it to photobucket.com and saved the URL from that just in case I was doing it wrong.

Every single sime it just comes up as a red cross.

    Please kindly advise.

    Best regards,

    Sam

    1. Hello Sam,

Thank you for contacting us. Can you provide the HTML code you are using to add the image, so we can help troubleshoot further?

      Thank you,
      John-Paul

  13. My problem: I uploaded an image as signature from my desktop and when I try to save, I receive the same error message each time: “the preferences identities could not be saved because its data exceeds the maximum allowable size”

The same if I made the image too small.

    Regards,

    Herc

  14. Is there still no resolution to recieving images on mobile devices still?

I have successfully uploaded the image so it comes through on access through email on my computer. But it comes up with an URL when opening on my mobile.

For a business email account.. You can understand this would be very confusing.

    Please advise

    Gemma

    1. Hello Gemma,

Thank you for contacting us. Yes, in my tests I am still unable to send an image in a signature from a mobile phone.

This is because it loads the text editor on a mobile phone by default, instead of the HTMl editor.

If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below.

      Thank you,
      John-Paul

    1. Hello Emmanuel,

Are you getting an error while uploading the logo? If so can you please provide it. If you are not getting an error can you explain what problem you are having while trying to upload the logo?

      Best Regards,
      TJ Edens

  15. Hi,

I did everything that is said.  Here is my image: 40.media.tumblr.com/7307dee1cf81f9ea6e6972afc0d6473e/tumblr_nrhbrtnOrH1qglf3uo1_1280.png.  P.S. The email is my gmail but I do have a horde

I copied and pasted that into Link–> Link Info –> URL and pressed save and tried to send an email but nothing went through.

Do you know what is the problem?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Hello Lauren,

That is fairly strange as I added the same image to a test account I had and it seemed to work for me. Also when you sent the email on the receiving side did you make sure to include html as if you don’t it will not load.

      Best Regards,
      TJ Edens

  16. Thanks Arnel.

I realised this after i sent the support message & have since rescaled all the images – perfect. Thankyou

    1. Hello Candice,

We would need to see how you’re using the graphics in the email in order to evaluate why it’s not working. One thing to remember is that if you’re using HTML email, and then you send it to another email address that opens in a different way (e.g. non-HTML), then the graphic formatting you may have applied wouldn’t work. If you want avoid issues where your inline HTML code is sizing the images, then you should re-size the images in a graphics program and use them as-is in the email. This unfortunately doesn’t help with formatting, but again, this depends on how the email client being used for the”other” email handles the HTML being used in the Horde email. Please provide us more information on the account or code used in the email and we can take a closer look at the issue if you need further assistance.

If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

      Regards,
      Arnel C.

    2. Hello HR,

I just spent a little time looking to see if it was possible and at present, but it’s not something that you can show while composing emails. In order to add that as a feature set, you would need to contact the developers of Horde to see if they could add it.

If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

      Regards,
      Arnel C.

  17. Hi,

I have uploaded all my pictures, linked them all, used the ‘image size’ options to scale them all down to a nice, neat well laid out size – however when i send a test email to another email address, all the images return to their full size – how can i stop this from happening?

    thankyou

  18. Aloha,

I have set up my signature the way you describe but when I send the email it is not there.  What have I done wrong?

    1. Hello Lealyn,

Can you provide us the code that you put in your signature HTML settings?

      Best Regards,
      TJ Edens

  19. thanks for elighting us more about signatery and logo on Horde. My problem is,  after I have followed the steps you showed us here ,my logo is not coming up.It is showing a small piece of box .Even when I have tried different way of solving this still not working . Please ,can you help me more on it thanks

    Joe

    1. Hello Joe,

Can you provide the code you are putting in for your signature? Generally if it is a small white box it means that the browser is unable to find the image. Can you tell us the path of where the image is located?

      Best Regards,
      TJ Edens

  20. Hello, I been trying to set up a logo in my email signature but when I paste the URL isnt show in up and also when i press cancel is not responding.

    Can you help ?

    1. Hello Hernan,

For the cancel button it seems that your browser is having an issue. As for the signature logo what url are you putting in there?

      Best Regards,
      TJ Edens

  21. Hi John

I am using webmail on my mac with Safari browser. I have saved logo.png in cPanel File Manager under public_html. I don’t know what command I should use to display logo in signature. Can you please type a syntax for me.

    Thank You

    1. Hello Vijay,

The article above actually shows you how it needs to be done. There is no coding involved. Yuo simply need to know the PATH for your file. If you copied the logo.png under your public_html file and the primary domain root is defaulted to public_html, then the path should be something like https://yourdomain/logo.png. You can test it by typing in the path in your browser and verifying that the image you’re referencing is appearing correctly.

I hope this helps to answer your question, please let us know if you require any further assistance.

      Regards,
      Arnel C.

    Thanks in advance

    Tom M

    1. Hello Tom,

Thank you for contacting us. We are happy to help, but will need some additional information.

Have you tried visiting the the image in a browser, to make sure it loads?

What type of device/browser are you using? For example, are you on Windows with Firefox?

Please provide any additional information that will help me replicate and troubleshoot the problem.

      Thank you,
      John-Paul

  23. Hi this was very helpful, except when I send my emails with my logo it comes up as an attachment or just a blank box?

Please can you help me further.

    1. Hello Maddy,

What type if image file is the logo? Does this occur on every device or specific ones?

      Kindest Regards,
      Scott M

  24. Hi, I would like to know how can I configure the image so the text appears at its right instead of below the logo. Is this possible?

    thanks

    1. Hello Caro,

By putting the image alignment to the left you should be able to achieve what you are looking to do.

      best Regards,
      TJ Edens

  25. I just added an email signature using Horde.   When an email is sent, however, the signature is hidden under an … expand button.   Is there a way to have the signature appear outside of this?

    Kind Regards,

    Greg

    1. the “expand” button is a feature of the mail client that is reading the email and not from the signature itself (Gmail typically does this). Unfortunately, there’s no way to manipulate how the email client handles the message itself.

  26. Hello Arnel,

No i’m not using my webmail on my mobile, try to do this on computer,

i already add my logo and also my company details under the singnature box which is in bottom. But even i can’t save my details.and also it’s not show under my email..

    Reg

     Atchaya

    1. Hello Atchya,

Can you provide any information on your account? Or can you provide the steps you’ve taken to add the signature? Are there any error messages? Any information that can help us with your specific situation would be helpful as it is working when we test it here.

      Kindest Regards,
      Scott M

  27. Thanks Arnel,

How can I add the .jpg from my laptop without using html or making the image available online?

    Thanks,

    Matt

    1. Hello Matt,

If you have a web hosting account, you can always add the image on your account. Or, if you have an online image account (that is accessible to the web) or some other online account, you can upload the image there and then get the image URL. Horde is online webmail client, so unless you have direct access to that server, you would not be able to place the image there so that you can access it on the web. I hope this helps to clarify the issue. If you have further questions on the problem, please let us know.

      Regards,
      Arnel C.

  28. Hello,

I did the logo settings as your advice, but i can’t view my singnature under my email

Is there any other settings for save that?

    1. Matt,

Thanks for the question. If you’re trying to use the HTML signature on a mobile device, it will not work. Also, if you have tried to set on your phone or other mobile device, then the signature setting get’s reset as a plain text signature. This has been tested many times recently, so we are aware how it does work. You stated that your image is on your laptop. You will need to make that image available from a web source, or it will not work. Can you describe how and where you’re trying to create the signature? Provide a few more details and we can see what’s happening. Also, remember that we’re providing directions based on the version of Horde that is loaded on InMotion’s hosting servers- version 5.14.

Sorry again for the issues, please let us know if you still require assistance on the issue.

      Regards,
      Arnel C.

    2. Hello Ms Atchaya,

There should be no other settings. Can you provide any information on your account? Or can you provide the steps you’ve taken to add the signature? We’ve tested this many times and we are aware that it’s working. We do know that you’re trying to make this work on a mobile device, then it does NOT work. If you’re doing that, then unfortunately, there’s no fix. Please provide is a little more info on the issue and we can help. If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

      Regards,
      Arnel C.

  29. HI,

I have a .jpg file that is my email signature.  This is saved on my laptop.  How do I attach this as the signature?  I’ve tried the html advice but it’s just giving me text.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  30. in mobile device, (responsive horde, or mobile mode) it show “text” (plaintext)before message box, when you send you received only text message, no “rich text/html signature.

please help, if there setting missed.

    thank you

    1. Hello isaac,

Thank you for the additional information. I spent some time testing this, and you are correct. The HTML email option is not working on a mobile device. This seems to be a known issue with Horde, as it is listed on that bug report.

As a workaround, I was able to create an email signature in RoundCube, and use it on my mobile device.

If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below.

      Thank you,
      John-Paul

  31. This picture based signature, if using mobile or tablet send out, they won’t send richtext (picture base signature) anywhere to disolve this problem

    thank you

    1. Hello isaac,

Thank you for contacting us about Webmail. I’m not exactly sure what you’re question is, please provide more details on what you want to accomplish.

      Thank you,
      John-Paul
