Stop Spam by forwarding spam to Spamcop

You can stop spam from reaching your server without having to configure Spam Assassin or filtering the emails by submitting the Spam to Spam Cop. You can copy and paste the spam email and submit it through the Website form or you can simply forward the email to Spam Cop. In some cases you cannot submit the spam through their form so you can use the forwarding method. Below are the steps to forward and submit your spam emails to Spam Cop.

IMPORTANT! Make sure the email you are sending is actually spam and not an email you opted into. If you submit spam that is not spam, you could stop the business of a legitimate company and end up being removed from Spam Cop as a user.

Steps to forward Spam email to Spam Cop

  1. Log into your Spam Cop account at the following url:

    http://www.spamcop.net/

    If you do not have a Spam Cop account you can sign up for free on their site.

  2. Visit site Stop Spam Spam Cop

    Once logged in you will have a specific email address to send to that associates the email with your account.

    Copy the email address on their site.


  3. Save spam email to desktop Spam Cop

    Save the spam email to your desktop.

  4. Attach the spam to a new email Spam Cop

    Paste the email address in the “To” of a new email message. (In this tutorial we are using Thunderbird.)

    Attach the email you save to your Desktop to the new email you are writing.

    You can Just say “Stop Spam” in the email as a computer reads in and not a human.

    Send the email.

  5. Report the spam Spam Cop

    Go back to Spam Cop and click “Report Spam”.

  6. Unreported Spam Spam Cop

    You will see the spam listed in the “Unreported Spam Saved” area. ClickReport Now“.

  7. Send Spam report Spam Cop

    Paste in a Canned Response similar to below stating the email is spam and why you cannot stop it.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To whom it may concern,  Please stop these spammers from emailing me.  Their subject line keeps changing. The originating server and email address changes making it impossible to filter.  We did not opt into this and their opt out link does not work.  Please cease this spam activity. Sincerely,  Your First name ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ClickSend Spam Report(s) Now“.

    Sent Spam Cop

    You will see a confirmation stating the email was sent to the specific Hosting company that is originating the spam.

  • I receive a lot of spam; but inmotion hosting blocks my responses to unsubscribe, stating the my outgoing email is considered spam.  This compounds an already serious problem – how can I email back to the spammer to unsubscribe?  Also, how do I block certain addresses (this provides little help, as they are very adept at changing email addresses).

    • If you are having trouble with email being caught by the outgoing spam filter you can contact support to see if they can whitelist the domain you are sending from however it is best not to reply to spammers or click any links in the emails they send as it is likely to make your spam situation worse. If you would like to filter out more spam you can adjust the required score in your spam assassin in cPanel to have it filter out more spam or you could enable boxtrapper in cPanel which will require any new senders that emailed you to click a confirmation link in their email before it allows the one they sent to you to be delivered.

      I am submitting this ticket on the behalf of my client. My client is constantly receiving fake registration Emails from the News Letter Section of the site. So I request host to look into this matter and block those domains.
      And can you please check my server is hack by some one or not. because of i have checked my project all files and folder but not getting any miscellaneous code and script.

  • Their spam identifying mechanism needs to know the full email header information. That’s why they require that the spam being forwarded as an attachment. That’s the only way to keep the full header information and content unaduterated.

  • I’m experiencing the same issue. I use MXGuardDog for my spam filtering. A couple spams get through their filtering everyday. When that happen I am supposed to forward the email as an attachment to spam@mxguarddog.com. It will help prevent similar email getting through in the future. I cannot use this feature anymore as everything I try to forward get rejected at your outging server. Is there a way you can configure your rejection mechanism to allow sending spam to certain receiver? These filtering companies are well known….

    • I would copying the text into another file and then compressing the file using something like ZIP in order to rename it. Otherwise, you would need to take a screenshot and send it an image.

  • I am using filtering at the account level. I have 15 or so useless TLDs automatically deleted. I still get quite a few from Bulgaria that come as if from .coms that never get tagged. I just think you need to update your usually helpful files to include the fact that you are filtering outgoing as well, which seems to affect anything going to SpamCop that’s more than an hour old.

  • Inmotion is blocking my forwarded spam emails to SpamCop because they are spam. I get a fair amount of spam that is not snagged by SpamAssassin, so I need to know how to proceed other than hand pasting all the spam through the spamcop website.

    • Hello Amy,

      In addition to the SpamCop filter on the server, and the Spam Assassin tool, you can further tailor your spam prevention by adding Account or User level filtering. This allows you to choose exactly what you determine to be spam and get rid of that. Proper spam maintenance is an ongoing process so you may continually add/modify filters to your specific needs.
