Markdown lets writers compose posts and comments with formatting that is commonly used by writers or bloggers. It creates an easy way to create rich, media-enhanced text using syntax which is easy to learn and remember. **Jetpack Markdown** complies with the [CommonMark spec](https://commonmark.org/help/), but uses [Markdown Extra](https://en.support.wordpress.com/markdown-quick-reference/) that includes features. This article covers how to enable markdown in Jetpack for posts and comments in WordPress.

If you’re looking for a better hosting solution for your WordPress site, then look no further than InMotion’s [WordPress Hosting](https://www.inmotionhosting.com/wordpress-hosting) options! You get optimized, managed and budget-minded subscription options that fit your hosting needs.

This article requires that you have the [Jetpack plugin](/support/edu/wordpress/plugins/installing-wordpress-jetpack-plugin/) loaded for your WordPress site.
