How to Set Expiration Dates for Posts in WordPress

You never want to have old information on your site. Out-of-date content can send visitors running from your site, or, worse, can provide false information that leads others astray. This is why it’s wise to have a policy of “expiring” time-sensitive posts.

It’s very easy to set expiration dates for posts in WordPress using the Post Expirator plugin.

  1. Log into your WordPress Dashboard
  2. Click Plugins and search for Post Expirator
  3. Install and Activate the plugin
  4. Click Posts
  5. Select a post or create a new one
  6. Scroll down in the editor window to reveal the Post Expirator metabox

Select Your Expiration

Once you have accessed the Post Expirator box, you can enable and disable expiration with a checkbox. Once enabled, you can decide what you would like to happen once the post has expired. You can select among these options:

Draft
Save your post as unpublished (but still available)
Delete
Never see the post again.
Trash
Deleted but can be restored.
Private
Only available to authorized users.
Stick
Featured prominently on post index (based on your theme).
Unstick
No longer featured prominently on post index (based on your theme).
Category: Replace
Change category.
Category: Add
Add category.
Category: Remove
Remove category.

You’ll notice above that you have a lot of options. Be sure to let us know if you have any questions about using this plugin.
