# How to Backup the Magento 1.6 Database

Magento 1.6 includes a backup tool that will back up your [hosted Magento](https://www.inmotionhosting.com/magento-hosting) database. Backing up your Magento 1.6 shopping cart regularly is extremely important since your database stores all of your content for your web store. If anything goes wrong having a current backup of Magento can help you easily restore your store’s content. Creating a backup of Magento 1.6 is easily accomplished in the Magento Admin Panel.

1. [Log into your Magento Admin Backend](/support/edu/magento/how-to-log-into-magento-admin-panel/)

You’ll notice in the screenshot below that we just created a database backup. The database is extremely important as this is where your site’s data (products, orders, customers, etc.) are stored.
