As you start to customize your newly installed Magento 1.6 webstore, you'll probably want to change the logo that displays in the top right section of the header on each page. This can be easily accomplished in the Magento 1.6 Admin Panel at any time.

Uploading your logo to Magento

In Magento 1.6, to change the logo you simply have to specify a new URL path to the logo. If you want to place the logo in the same folder as the default one, you'll have to use cPanel's File Manager or FTP. Each logo is relative to the template you are using. If you change the theme on your website, you'll have to upload the new image.

While this may sound complicated, it keeps the files and folders of Magento organized.

  1. With your FTP program (in this example we'll use FileZilla), go to the root folder of Magento
  2. Go to skin/frontend/default
  3. From here you'll need to select the template you are using. Currently we're using the "modern" template so we'll click on that folder
  4. Now, click on the images folder
  5. Select the logo file, and upload the file
  6. magento_logo_4

Setting the path to the logo in Magento

Now, that you have uploaded the image of your logo to Magento 1.6, we'll need to tell Magento where it is. Changing the file path or URL to your logo in Magento 1.6 is easily accomplished in the Magento Admin backend

  1. Log into your Magento Admin Panel
  2. Go to System ->> Configuration
  3. magento_dashboard_1

  4. Click on "Design" in the left side menu pane
  5. Open the "Header" section
  6. Change the file name in the "Logo Image Src" to the file name you just uplaoded. Leave the images/prefix alone
  7. magento_logo_5

  8. Click "Save Config"

Now, when you visit your website, your new logo should be displayed in the upper left of the header of the paghe

magento_logo_6 magento_logo_7

Hello 95egirl,

The instructions above utilize FTP to bring file into the correct location. You have to upload the file first before doing the second part.

I hope this helps to answer your question, please let us know if you require any further assistance.

I have a question, when I change the CMS Static blocks, Header info, it never updates my changes after the save. Is this a cache issue? Thanks!

This does indeed sound like a caching issue. Try clearing your browser cache.

It's not on the browser side its happening on the Magento side, when I save changes in the stactic blocks it defaults back to the original text. strange?

Hello Travis,

You might want to try clearing the Magento cache in order to see your changes.

Please let us know if you're still having issues after that. If you'd like to reply to this comment with the domain name you're having issues on, we can take a look and then remove the domain name before allowing the comment to go public.

It looks like the logo path that you are referencing does not exist. The location that the script is attempting to grab the logo from this the following: LOGO.jpg
I recommend taking a look at your image name to ensure that the location that is is referencing is correct. Also, I recommend against using spaces in file names as it can cause issues later.

Hello Richard,

You need to ensure that you are typing in the correct image path to your logo image. Currently it is trying to pull the image from which doesn't exist.

It looks like your other images on the site are being pulled from /skin/frontend/default/theme412/images/media/, so did you possibly upload your logo to that directory under a different file name?

You just need to make sure that your Logo Img Src in Magento is set to the physical location of the logo you uploaded.

Please let us know if you're still having issues.

Hello scrognoid,

The reason you are displaying a broken image is the path to the logo is incorrect. The broken path is "/skin/frontend/base/default/logo.gif" where your logo is located at "/skin/frontend/default/default/images/logo.gif"

Try setting that and the default logo should return. That is also the path you want to use to replace teh default logo should you choose.

Best Regards,

Tried this but myimage.gif displays broken image link. Switched back to logo.gif and it's now broken too.
