# How to create a new Contact in Joomla 3.1

It is easy to create a new contact within the Contacts Component in Joomla 3.0. Here are the steps:

**Creating a new Contact**

1. [Log into your Joomla 3.0 admin dashboard](/support/edu/joomla/joomla-3/how-to-log-in-to-administrative-dashboard/)
2. In the top menu, click **Components**, hover over **Contacts**, and then click **Contacts**
3. In the top left of the page, click the **New** button****
4. There are many details you can fill out on this New Contact page. **Fill out the necessary fields**, and **then click Save** in the top left menu. In the table below you can see the data we used for our new contact: Name *Enter the name for your new contact* As we are creating teacher and student contacts in our testing, we entered **Teacher A** as the *Name*. Linked User If this new contact is a registered user in your Joomla 3.0 website, click **Select User** and choose the appropriate Joomla username. We linked **Teacher A** to the *admin* username. Category *Choose which Contacts Category this user belongs to.* Because we already [created a new Contacts Category](/support/edu/joomla/joomla-3/new-category/) of Teachers, we selected **Teachers** as the *category*. Miscellaneous Information For Teacher A’s Miscellaneous Information, we entered the following: *This is the Miscellaneous Information for Teacher A.*
