# Admin Tools Core – Installation guide for Joomla 3

In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to install the **Admin Tools Core** Joomla component. With this component, you can perform certain administrative tasks such as [password protecting your dashboard](https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/edu/joomla/joomla-3/brute-force-protection/), changing your Joomla database prefix, and more. We’ll cover these topics in [future tutorials](https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/edu/joomla/joomla-3/optimization/).

**To install *Admin Tools***:

1. Download the latest **stable** version of **Admin Tools** from [here](https://www.akeebabackup.com/download/admin-tools).
2. [Login to your Joomla 3 admin dashboard](/support/edu/joomla/how-to-log-in-to-administrative-dashboard/)
3. In the top menu, click **Extensions** and then click **Extension Manager**.
4. Under *Upload & Install Joomla Extension*, click **Browse…** Select the file you downloaded in step 1 above (in our case, *com_admintools-2.6.0-core.zip*), and then click the **Upload & Install** button. When the installation has completed successfully, you’ll see the following message: **Message** Installing component was successful. That’s it, you’ve just installed the *Admin Tools Core* Joomla component!
