When working with images in Drupal 7, you can control which types of images you want to be uploaded for each content type. Perhaps you want to restrict the files to gif and jpg files, or only want to use png files. In either case, this is easily controlled via the Drupal 7 admin dashboard. The intructions that follow guide you on how to adjust the file types allowed for your image uploads.

Modifying the allowed image file types in Drupal 7:

  1. Log into the Drupal 7 admin dashboard.
  2. Using the top menu bar, locate and click on the Structure option.
  3. From this next page, click on the Content Types link.
  4. On the Content Types page, find the Basic Pages row and click on the Manage Fields link.
  5. Find the Image row and then click on the Edit link to take you to the settings page.
  6. On the settings page, find the Allowed file extensions setting. You will see the default types listed (png, gif, jpg, jpeg). You may expand or remove other image file types as you see fit.

  7. Click on the Save Settings button at the bottom of the page to save your new file type checklist.

Your new setting will either expand or restrict the type of image file you can upload in Drupal 7.
