# How to upgrade a program installed with Softaculous

Keeping your software up to date is very important. New versions are released on a regular basis, and these updates often contain bug fixes and security patches. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to upgrade a program that you previously [installed using Softaculous](/support/product-guides/softaculous/install-software-softaculous/).

**To upgrade software using Softaculous:**

1. Click on the **Softaculous Apps Installer**.
2. Click on the **All Installations** icon in the top toolbar.
3. You will then be brought to [your scripts installation page](/support/product-guides/softaculous/whats-installed/). Next to the program you would like to upgrade, click the ![icon_upgrade](https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/edu_cpanel_softaculous_icon_upgrade.gif) upgrade icon.
4. We recommended following Softaculous’ suggestion and creating a backup before you perform the upgrade. To do this, check the box next to **Create Backup**.
5. Click the **Upgrade** button A progress bar will show on the screen, and when the upgrade has completed, you will see the following message:*Congratulations, the software was upgraded successfully.*
