How to Setup your Social Profiles in Yoast SEO

As we continue our series on the Yoast SEO plugin, we will now show you how to setup your social profiles in Yoast SEO. This allows Yoast SEO to add open graph meta data to your posts and page. Open Graph meta ensures your content will display successfully on social media platforms, such as images and descriptions.

Setup Social Profiles

  1. Log into your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Click the SEO then Social link.

  3. You will then be on the social profiles page. Enter the addresses of the social media sites you want to add.

  4. Click the Save changes button.

    You will then see a Settings saved message.

  5. Click the Facebook tab to access the settings.

  6. You will then be on the Facebook settings page, make sure it is Enabled.

  7. Enter your Facebook App ID if you have one. For more information, see Facebook’s official documentation on Creating an App ID.

  8. Click the Upload Image button to set a default image. This will display when you share a Post/Page that does not have any images.

  9. Click the Twitter tab and make sure it is Enabled.

  10. Next to “The default card type to use” choose how you want your Pages/Posts to display on Twitter. The available options are Summary or Summary with large image.

  11. Click the Pinterest tab.

  12. If you have not verified your site with Pinterest, click the confirm your site with Pinterest link and follow the steps.

  13. Once your site is confirmed you will be provided with meta tags. Paste them into the Pinterest Confirmation field.

  14. Click the Google+ tab and enter the URL of your Google Publisher Page (if you have one).

  15. Click the Save changes button to complete the setup.

    You are finished when you see a “Settings saved” message.
