Log into Jetpack after IP Address Locked Out

The Jetpack WordPress plugin suite adds valuable performance and security features to your website. Among them is Jetpack’s brute force attack protection module you can enable in Settings → Security. There you can whitelist IP addresses to never block regardless of the amount of failed login attempts.

But IP addresses used to modify the website change with VPN usage, network updates, and the need to make changes from a new location. Meanwhile, password issues are sometimes unavoidable. Caps Lock or Fn keys may be enabled. Maybe you’re not used to writing on a specific keyboard.

Regardless of the reason, sometimes you’ll need to whitelist an IP address immediately. To ensure you’re able to do work in such situations, we’ll cover how to bypass the Jetpack plugin lockout.

Keep in mind we have a free Jetpack license included with our WordPress Hosting.

Bypass Jetpack Lockout

  1. Log into SSH, cPanel File Manager or FTP.
  2. Navigate to your WordPress root directory.
  3. Edit your wp-config.php file.
  4. Add the following to the bottom of your wp-config.php file:
    define('JETPACK_IP_ADDRESS_OK', 'X.X.X.X');

    Replace X.X.X.X with your your local IP address(es).
  5. Save your changes. You should now be able to log into WordPress dashboard.
