I'm trying to create multiple websites under one domain for testing and development purposes. The main domain is setup with Wordpress and working properly (using the temporary URL feature). Now I need a way to add additional Wordpress sites that all act separately from one another. I was told to try addon Domains and this did not work. Then I was told to try adding subdomains and that also has not worked. I get error messages saying the URL can not be found.

Our current main URL: http://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX/~XXXXXXX

Hello Thomas,

Thank you for your question, I have removed your Temp URL from this public forum for security purposes (since it contains your cPanel username).

Any time you Addon a domain, or create a new Subdomain, it will take up to 24 hours to propagate.

You can use a Host file modification in the meantime to access/edit the site, by pointing to your shared IP. Just be sure to remove the modification after the site propagates.

Since you want to use the same domain you have 2 options:

  • Create a subdomain then install Wordpress there. For example:,

  • When you install Wordpress, choose different directories for each installation. For example:, or

If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below.
Thank you,
