Website Gone Missing

Within the past few days the website I manage ( has gone missing. At the same time all e-mail accounts associated with the domain have ceased to receive messages, though they can, seemingly at random, send messages. When I try the temp URL given to me by InMotion I can access the site, and the files are all where they are supposed to be. How do I fix this problem?

Hello JoshuaK,

Thank you for your question. I performed a Whois lookup on your domain, and noticed that it is registered through, and expired on 2013-06-25.

Since the domain is not in our control, I recommend contacting your registrar (, and renewing the domain with them. This is to avoid your website being released and possibly being picked up by someone else.

Here is your Whois record:

Thanks for the answer. Now I have another question, when I transferred the site from FatCow to InMotion it was my understanding that I renewed the domain automatically at the same time. Could you explain what exactly is going on?

Hello JoshuaK,

Thank you for your response. According to the Whois record, the domain was never transferred to us (since Fastdomain is still listed as the registrar).

Your Nameservers are pointed to us, which means it is hosted here, but the registration remained elsewhere. Here is a link to a helpful article that explains Domain Names - Registrar Transfer versus NameServer Change.

We wouldn't be able to renew the domain unless the registration was transferred to us first.

You can initiate a domain transfer to us in AMP, but you would have to renew the domain with Fastdomain first, since expired domains cannot be transferred.

If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below.
Thank you,
