Moodle upgrade failure

Took the invitation from cPanel to update Moodle 2.2.3 to Moodle 2.3.2.

When the update started after supposedly backing up the site, I get the message that all apps are "ok" except that the UTF-8 unicode will need to be "checked."

There were no instructions on how to do that.

The upgrade would not proceeed and it could not be cancelled.

The site became unaccessible.

I removed the apparent 2.3.2 upgrade and then "restored" the 2.2.3 original site. Then I get the error message (I changed the letters to ***...):

Coding error detected, it must be fixed by a programmer: page layout file /home/*******/public_html/moodle/theme/base/layout/general.php does not contain the main content placeholder, please include "main_content() ?>" in theme layout file.

How is that done when I am not a programmer?

Hello Deans,

The UTF-8 issue may have to do with database collation. You will need to check with Moodle's forum support on this unfortunately. A lot of this will require their coding expertise to determine why you're having these problems.

You will need to submit a ticket to to see about restoring your website with the backup. You need to submit this immediately as our backups typically run 24-36 hours. Make sure to provide verification with your request - either last 4 digits of credit card on the account or the Account Management Panel (AMP) password.

The restore should bring you back to your previous version and run properly. I'm not sure what may have changed in your previous update aattempt.

If you have any further questions, please contact technical support or leave a comment at the bottom of the page.
