I would like my emails to my customers to look like a hand written letter, eg: have 8 1/2 x 11 shape, a border around the outside, italics, and left margin.

As many email clients that your customers are using support HTML, you could easily design it using a combination of HTML and CSS. Unfortunately, there is not a straightforward way for me to provide you with exact instructions, but this tutorial on HTML should get you started.

Are you serious? Someone asks how to format their email, you send them to the "learn html for dummies guide"? JeffMa, why don't you just give them example html code? Take 10 minutes, figure something out in Thunderbird, and share with the rest of the class how you did it.

Hello JohnnyS,

Jeff was not trying to be facetious or not answer correctly. The answer that Jeff gave is correct, it would need to be coded in HTML in order to appear as the original poster asked. The interface for writing an email in ThunderBird has some very basic Word Processing tools (font, spacing, alignment, etc), but nothing that would do what the asker wants without HTML help.

Kindest Regards,
Scott M
