Questions about VPS

So I recently migrated my server onto VPS1000 and had a bunch of questions:

1. So I obtained vps root access, however it says that it requires custom name server, will those use up my 2 dedicated ip address? I was hoping to host my production site on 1 ip and my dev on another originally.
2. Along the same lines, I try to add a new IP address in my WHM, and it tells me to contact SA. Can you help me with this?
3. Also when trying to create a 2nd site on same account, I did "Create a new account" and after setting that up, the httpd.conf shows the virtual server for that new account pointing to the new nameserver ip's from (1), and I've changed nameservers on my domain to that but it's still not resolving correctly.
4. My domain is hosted on godaddy. When I try to change the nameservers to the ones provided by the email, I get Invalid TLD error, which it seems to mean nameservers are not registered. Am I missing any steps? So I've left it pointing to and ns2 but the resolving still works. Is it supposed to??
5. To get ssh access, we need to add ip to firewall, but I might be performing ssh access from multiple ip's. How do I manage this list? I don't see it in WHM.

I apologize if some of these questions are pretty trivial. Thanks!

Hello hiya67,

Custom nameservers are not related to your 2 available IP addresses. Here is a link to our article on using custom nameservers.

Since this is a public forum, it is not the place to make this type of request. Our System administrators must assign the IP addresses, you can request them via email. Send an email to:, and include verification (either your current Amp password, or the last 4 digits of the current credit card that we have on file.)

Anytime you make a change to DNS it can take up to 24 hours to propagate.

You cannot point to the Nameservers with godaddy, until they are Registered. Here is a link to an article in their support forum on how to accomplish this.

Here is a link to our tutorial on how to add an IP to your Firewall (for ssh access). You can add each IP you use, or add a CIDR range, however we do not recommend doing this, as it can increase the chances of a brute-force attack.

If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below.
Thank you,

Hey John-Paul,

Thanks for the responses. They really helped, I got my 2nd server setup on my VPS. Now quick question, how do I setup the new server to use SSL, currently none of my https links are working.

Hello hiya67, and thanks for the question.

You can find out more about SSL certificates in our guide on how do I obtain an SSL certificate.

If you already have an SSL certificate, and just need it installed on the server for you, please be sure to submit a ticket to including either the last 4 digits of your current credit card on file, or the current AMP password of your account for verification.

If you had any other questions at all, please let us know!
