In phpMyAdmin I get the following message:

"A newer version of phpMyAdmin is available and you should consider upgrading. The newest version is x.x.x, released on xxxx-xx-xx."

I have a Shared Hosting Plan.

How do I upgrade phpMyAdmin?

Hello atzorio,

The phpMyAdmin that is available via the cPanel is at the server level and is not available to upgrade on an account basis.

However, you can install your own copy onto your hosting account. From there you can stay up to date with the most recent copy if you wish.

Kindest Regards,

Hi Scott

Thanks for your reply. I understand that I can install my own copy onto my hosting account, and that this will solve my problem.

However I have a question. As a general security policy, I want to keep everything upgraded to the latest stable version. Is there a reason why the server level cPanel phpMyAdmin is not upgraded? I would have thought that everybody would want the latest stable version....or am I not understanding something?

Hello atzorio,

Updating things on a shared server and making sure they all play nicely with each other can be delayed at times. cPanel needs to undergo their own testing before compatibility is confirmed for their release. Once they have their release available and it supports the most up to date versions, then our servers can update. Ultimately, our network engineers make the final decision on when things are upgraded as sometimes the most up to date is not the mot secure, nor is it guaranteed to always be backwards compatible with things customers may have on the server. In short, things can be upgraded once proper testing and confidence is developed in the versions.

Kindest Regards,
