Systems Operations Administrator, Tier 3

We are looking for a Systems Operations Administrator with a love of Linux and scripting experience in Python to join our Tier 3 team. In this role you will be a part of our highest level of technical escalation overseeing the management of our entire datacenter infrastructure. 

With our Tier 3 Systems Operations team you will be directing and documenting the configuration, operation, and maintenance of hardware and software supporting web infrastructure. As an advocate for the customer, you will ensure any issues impacting the environment are resolved quickly and correctly through your in depth understanding of the LAMP stack, virtualization, and networking principles. 

The shift we are currently looking to fill will be an overnight schedule. 

What You’ll Do: 

  • Ensuring host performance is at or above defined thresholds for shared, VPS, and dedicated hosts
  • Ensure critical web infrastructure supporting company efforts are properly maintained, highly available, and secure and at all times
  • Review, plan, coordinate maintenance windows, software patches, and other routine operating system maintenance
  • Resolve open issues and escalations; provide root cause analysis as needed
  • Find opportunities to automate, secure, and derive metrics from regular operations, systems performance, and fault monitoring
  • Monitor customer facing systems and critical infrastructure for failures, outages, and performance issues
  • Identify and resolve gaps in our monitoring infrastructure and training, with the goal of end-to-end monitoring and testing for production infrastructure
  • Interact with vendors regarding license management, ordering/RMA activities, troubleshooting hardware or services for failure and performance, service contract research, and management
  • Compile, install, configure, update, and document software; use best practices and tools like package managers to assure maintenance and future patching exercises are as simple as possible
  • Maintain and secure access to confidential company information, passwords databases, authentication systems, and private key infrastructure
  • Assist in the data center as needed
  • Participate in peer review processes to assure coding standards and deployment processes maximize value and minimize potential disruption to business processes

What We’re Looking For: 

  • Two year degree or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of system administration experience with UNIX/Linux
  • 1-2 years working with large complex networks with multi-tiered network topologies
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting/programming language, Python preferred
  • Experience prioritizing and resolving escalations in a help desk environment
  • Ability to assist with security audits using standard UNIX/ Linux tools 
  • Thorough understanding of  the “LAMP” stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP/Perl), 
  • Strong knowledge of the cPanel/Web Host Manager (WHM) platform; includes GUI and CLI tools as well as knowledge of internals and automation APIs
  • Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies with an understanding of the challenges of load balancing and performance tuning in densely populated virtual environments
  • Solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts; understands principles of routing and switching, TCP/IP
  • Understanding and experience leveraging «Saltstack» for configuration management and standardization across thousands of hosts
  • Familiarity with continuous integration technology (CI) or continuous delivery systems such as «GitLab CI/CD»
  • Skills in troubleshooting with Bind, Apache, MySQL, PHP and Perl applications/scripts
