Last March I attended Joomla Day Boston 2014. Over the weekend I had the privilege to both attend <strong>and<\/strong> present at <em>Joomla Day Minnesota 2014<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>Before the event started, the gracious organizers took some of the event&#8217;s sponsors out to <a href=\"https:\/\/mlb.mlb.com\/mlb\/gameday\/index.jsp?gid=2014_07_18_tbamlb_minmlb_1&amp;mode=wrap&amp;partnerId=LR_wrap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a Twins game<\/a>! Unfortunately the Twins didn&#8217;t win, but that didn&#8217;t matter, watching the game from the box seats helped make the night one to remember.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"clear: both;\">Sessions and Speakers<\/h2>\n<h3>STATE OF THE JOOMLA! UNION<\/h3>\n<div class=\"embeded-tweet\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/instagram.com\/p\/qoomQwKF4i\/embed\/\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/imrodmartin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rod Martin<\/a> was the event&#8217;s keynote speaker in the morning. His talk was all about the current state of Joomla!.<\/p>\n<p>Do you remember being 10 years old, and do you understand how far you&#8217;ve come since then? Do you know that Joomla is turning 10 next year? That&#8217;s right, and Rod did an excellent job through his stories driving home that point.<\/p>\n<p>The evening before his presentation, Rod and I had some time to talk WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal. He has significant experience in all three, and he wasn&#8217;t shy about praising his favorite (guess which CMS?). I saw his optimism and excitement for the future of Joomla during our conversations and while he took the podium.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"clear: both;\">The Success of Joomla 3!<\/h3>\n<div class=\"embeded-tweet\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>Listening to &#8220;The success of Joomla 3&#8221; with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mbabker\">@mbabker<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/jdaymn14?src=hash\">#jdaymn14<\/a> &#8211; did you know <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/inmotionhosting\">@inmotionhosting<\/a> uses joomla 3 too? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/R9f0aFBMma\">pic.twitter.com\/R9f0aFBMma<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 InMotion Hosting (@inmotionhosting) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/inmotionhosting\/statuses\/490592755694202880\">July 19, 2014<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mbabker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael Babker<\/a>, member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joomla.org\/about-joomla\/the-project\/leadership-team.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joomla Leadership Team<\/a>, spoke in the afternoon on some of the successes of Joomla 3.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the highlights shared during his talk included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joomla has been downloaded <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mbabker\/status\/489783046019624960\/photo\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">12 million times in the last 12 months<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>During the last few summers, Joomla has seen new and updated code thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/open-source\/soc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google&#8217;s Summer of Code<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Joomla 3 is expected not to reach end of life until 2018!.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"clear: both;\">Free Schwag!<\/h2>\n<div class=\"embeded-tweet\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>Are you attending <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/jdmn14?src=hash\">#jdmn14<\/a>? That&#8217;s right, I came packing! How cool is it when your job is to give away some cool schwag to fellow Joomla users? Very cool!<\/p>\n<p>If you ever see us at an event, stop by and say hello! And don&#8217;t be afraid to ask, we&#8217;re usually equipped with goodies you can take home and show off to your friends.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"clear: both;\">Looking forward<\/h2>\n<p>This year was the first year for Joomla Day MN. There&#8217;s no doubt that this was a very successful event! A big congratulations goes out to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mpmike\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Demo<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RyanBoog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ryan Book<\/a>, and the other event organizers.<\/p>\n<p>The event went so well that the team is already organizing <a href=\"https:\/\/joomladay.mn\/2015\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joomla Day MN 2015<\/a>! Next year the event will be held at <strong>Mall of America<\/strong>.
