In this article, we will introduce you to the FavHero Wordpress plugin that will allow you to easily add a favicon to your Wordpress site with ease. I especially like this plugin because it will allow you to upload an image and automatically resize it for you for various formats.

Installing the FavHero Wordpress plugin

Installing the FavHero plugin into your Wordpress site is a quite simple process and can be done with just a few clicks. In the next steps, we will walk you through the process of doing so.

  1. First, you will need to log into your Wordpress dashboard.

  2. Next, look over to the lest side of the screen inside your Wordpress dashboard and click on Plugins, then Add New. This should automatically show you a search box that you can search for the FavHero plugin within the Wordpress plugin database. Searching for the term FavHero should generate the appropriate plugin within the first result.

  3. Now that you have located the correct plugin, click on Install Now. Once clicked, Wordpress will then handle the download and installation of the FavHero plugin for you. Be sure to click Activate Now once the installation is complete to ensure that the plugin is fully active on your site.

Creating and activating your favicon in Wordpress

Setting up your new favicon within your Wordpress dashboard can be done with just a few clicks thanks to the FavHero plugin. To access these options, look over to the left side menu and click on Settings, then on FavHero Favicons.

On this menu, you will see the option to select a favicon. If you click on that button, it will open your medial library. If you already have an image that you want to use as your favicon, such as a logo, already uploaded then simply select it. If you need to upload a new image, you can do so using the same methods that you would upload any other images to your Wordpress site.

Once your image for your favicon is selected, the FavHero plugin will then generate several images based on it to use. Keep in mind that it will crop the sides of your image to display a square box so you will still want to make your favicon image as square as possible. Take a look at each of these to ensure that your favicon looks good, then scroll to the bottom and click on Save Changes.
