Email Client: Microsoft Outlook 2010
Error Message: The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that cannot be verified. The target principal name is incorrect.

outlook2010-ssl

Solution: This error is caused by a mismatch in enabling SSL and your port number in your account settings. Open Account Settings in Outlook and click on the advanced tab. If you need further assistance to open your account settings please see our Outlook 2010 Accessing Account Settings guide.

outlook9

Verify that you are using the correct ports for the incoming and outgoing mail server. If you are going to use the SSL enabled settings you will need to use the correct servers. If you are on a shared hosting plan, you would use:

secure##.inmotionhosting.com (you will need to replace the ## with the server number in your Temp URL)

We recommend using the SSL enable options. If by chance you are in a school or somewhere that may have these ports blocked, you can use the non-ssl settings. The correct ports are below:

Important! To get your SSL settings please see our article on Getting Started Guide: Email.

Non-SSL incoming POP: 110

Non-SSL incoming IMAP:  143

Non-SSL outgoing SMTP: 587

SSL enabled incoming POP: 995

SSL enabled incoming IMAP: 993

SSL enabled outgoing SMTP: 465

Hi Tim,

I'v been trying to fix this highly annoyin issue for a while now and none of your solutions worked for me. For instance I've setup the same account on another computer on the same lan with the same parameters and wverything works just fine. So for sure the problem is machine/OS/Office based (did try registry fix as well and Explorer tweak with no success...) I'm thinking to just reinstalling Office all along but not sure that will do the trick. Any other hints ?
