While Features list the non-optional specifications, such as height and weight, for a product in your PrestaShop 1.5 store, Attributes give your shopper options. Attributes are the different variations of your product from which your customers can choose, depending on the product and assigned attributes. Clothing may have attributes such as size or color, for example.

Features example:  height, weight
Attribute example: size, color

Attributes are added to a master list much the same as Features are. This means they are not added to a product specifically but a general list to choose from later when detailing your products. Working with attributes is a multi-step process, you must first create the attribute, then add the values. After that, you add the attributes to the products via combinations. Below are the steps to adding an attribute in PrestaShop 1.5.

To add Attributes to your list in PrestaShop 1.5:

  1. Log into your PrestaShop 1.5 dashboard
  2. From the top menu bar, hover over the Catalog tab and click Attributes and Values on the menu.
    catalog-tab-attributes
  3. You will now be on the Catalog : Attributes and Values page. To add a new feature, click on the green Add New Attributes button found in the upper right corner.
    attribute-add-new
  4. On the Catalog : Attributes and Values : Add new Attribute screen you have three fields to pay attention to:
Name:  The admin name for the attribute, only viewable in the admin area.
Public Name:  The name visitors will see on the site.
Attribute Type:  The format the visitor will see the value options in. The choices are dropdown list, radio button, or color

Once completed, click the green Save button in the upper right corner.
    attribute-add-new-save
  5. Your new Attribute should now appear in the Attributes list. You can add it to the product by setting up attribute combinations for it .
    Before After
    attribute-add-before attribute-add-new-after

Now you know how to add an Attribute in PrestaShop 1.5!

Hello Karthick,
I am unsure what you mean about attributes being simultaneous. If you are asking if you can use more than one on a product, then yes.

Yes, you can create more than one attribute the same for different products. For instance if you had widget A come in blue and green and widget B comes in black and yellow, you could have two different 'Color' attributes in the list there. Of course, you would need to keep up with which one was which.

Hello Noha,

Thanks for the question. As per the instructions, you can add other attributes, just go to Step 3 to add a new attribute.

I hope that helps to clear up the question. If it doesn't, then please provide some detail on what exactly you're trying to do and we'll be happy to investigate the issue further.

Thanks Arnel for your prompt reply, however I meant "Attribute Type"  additional type to the three options (drop-down list, Radio and color) I want the customer to cheoose more than one at the same time (checkbox) like build your own pizza type of thing

Thanks

Hello Noha,

Thanks for clarifying your question. The problem with this issue is one of definition. PrestaShop defines attributes vs features like this:

The difference between an attribute and a feature depends on the product itself. Some products might share the same property, one being an attribute built for building product variations, another one being simply an invariable feature.

For instance, a customer can buy an iPod variation based on attributes (color, disk space) but not on features (weight, size).

Likewise, another shop might sell t-shirts variations based on attributes (color, size, gender) but not on features (weight).

So, you may want consider the features instead of attributes. However, like many features of PrestaShop, you can modify behavior using a module. The main issue, however, is that these modules are not free. Here's a good example of one: Attribute Wizard Pro.

I hope that helps to provide an answer for you. If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Regards,
Arnel C.
