303: Adding External Links in the Premium Website Builder

You can use external links in the builder to link to either a different website or to a different subdomain or subdirectory of your own site. In this article we will cover both adding a link from to the body of a page and adding an external link to your site navigation.

Adding a link from the body of a page

Begin in Step 4 - Edit and select the page you want the link to appear on. Type in the words you want to turn into a link and then highlight those words. Next, click on the hyperlink icon in the builder toolbar (the icon is a small globe with a chain representing a link underneath it).

This will bring up a dialog window for you to fill in the information about the link. Leave the link type as URL and protocol should usually be https. In the "URL" field type in the website you want to link to. For example, I'm linking to inmotionhosting.com here:

You can click on the target tab and change the Target to New Window to have the link open in a new window or tab. When you're finished, simply click the "OK" button and you have created your link!

Adding a link in the navigation menu

For this type of link, start in Step 3 - Pages.

  1. Select the External Page under Special Pages
  2. Click the top > button to add the page to your Site Structure
  3. Click Next or Step 4 -Edit and select "Yes" when the Apply Changes pop-up window appears.

This will take you to Step 4 - Edit Pages in the builder. The External Page will be on the left side of your screen under your Site map. When you select the page you will see the text box to fill in the url you wish to link to.You will also want to edit the Page Title of that page (under the Site Map on the left side of the screen) to whatever you want the link text to be.

After saving your changes you can preview your site and test your new link!
