Protect your Joomla 3 admin dashboard from Brute Force logins

In this tutorial, we'll show you how to install the Admin Tools Core Joomla component. With this component, you can perform certain administrative tasks such as password protecting your dashboard, changing your Joomla database prefix, and more. We'll cover these topics in future tutorials.

To install Admin Tools:

  1. Download the latest stable version of Admin Tools from here.
  2. Login to your Joomla 3 admin dashboard
  3. In the top menu, click Extensions and then click Extension Manager.
  4. Under Upload & Install Joomla Extension, click Browse...

Select the file you downloaded in step 1 above (in our case, com_admintools-2.6.0-core.zip), and then click the Upload & Install button.

When the installation has completed successfully, you'll see the following message:

    Message
    Installing component was successful.

That's it, you've just installed the Admin Tools Core Joomla component! For further tutorials on how to use this plugin, please click here.

Sirs - The 'this page' link seems to be broken. At least, it will not allow me to download the Admin Tool zip file. I can go to Akeeba and download it, but as a folder, NOT as a zip file, in which case the Joomla 'installer' does not recognise the file and will not upload it! What am I doing wrong?

Hello steve,

Thank you for contacting us. I have updated the link in Step 1 with the latest download page.

As a test, I was able to install the Admin tools core in a clean installation of Joomla.

Make sure you are downloading the Admin Tools Core (on the bottom of the page), and not the Documentation (PDF). Also make sure that you are downloading the version of Admin tools that is compatible with your version of Joomla.

If your problems persist, please provide the full error message you are receiving.

Thank you,
John-Paul
