From time to time, you may need to put your Joomla 2.5 site in maintenance mode. Maintenance mode takes your website offline and shows visitors a custom message that you write, such as "My website is currently down for maintenance". In this article, we'll show you how to put your Joomla 2.5 site in maintenance mode and review several of the options you can customize.

To put your Joomla 2.5 site in Maintenance Mode:

  1. Log into your Joomla Dashboard
  2. In the top menu, hover over Site and click Global Configuration
    click-site-global-configuration
  3. Click the Site tab, and modify the following offline settings:

Site Offline Set to Yes to take your website offline and put it into maintenance mode
Offline Message You can set whether to hide any offline message, show a custom message, or show the message built into your theme
Custom Message If you'd like to display a custom offline message, enter it here and ensure Offline Message is set to Use Custom Message
Offline Image If you'd like a logo (or some other image to be show), use the Select button here to select it.

  4. After configuring your offline settings, click Save in the upper right menu. Congratulations, your site is now in maintenance mode!

How do you remove the login option?

You will want to make a Construction page and set only your IP to access the site if you just want a construction page only. Please see the following link on this.

Hello, jamesr. thanks for your response. How would you go about setting those 2 things up? I don't see any links in your post.

Thank you
