Hi - I want to keep my client's current site live until my new site is ready, so I want to put my WP site in a different directory for now. I found the tutorial for how to add Wordpress to a specific directory, but how do I transfer the site to the root directory later when I want to make the site live? Thank you. - Emily

Hello Emily,

Thanks for the question. We have a great set of articles on migrating Wordpress from one location to another. Additionally, WordPress provides their own articles on moving WordPress installations here.

Additionally, if you are changing the URL - which isn't clear - , then you would need to go through the process of changing the main domain. This will also involve moving the files (as per your migration steps) into that location.

If you are not changing the URL, then you can also reference this article for your specific question: Moving your WordPress from a subfolder to the root directory.

Follow the provided links and you should be able to get the information that you have requested. Please let us know if you require any further assistance.

Regards,
Arnel C.
