I'm having trouble uploading my web site from iweb. I have never had trouble before and haven't changed any of the settings but for some reason it is telling me it cannot connect to the server.

Hello Monatone,

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with getting iWeb to work properly. iWeb, like many web publishing programs, uses FTP in order to upload the website files that you create and modify in the iWeb program. If you're having problems with the connection, then it will typically be related to the parameters used to connect with FTP. Since you have not given us any particular information on the error, we can only guess at the problem. Check out this article: How to Publish with iWeb. Double-check your settings and make sure that it is using the correct cpanel user name and password to access your account. You can also test the connection with a separate FTP program like Cyberduck or Filezilla for Mac. Make sure that the path and server name is set correctly.

If you are still having problems after checking these settings, then please give us a more complete description of the problem that you are having. Steps to replicate the problem would be best and we would also need to know what settings you are using.

Hi Monatone!

You're welcome! Yes unfortunately, even if you haven't made changes, sometimes the change may have occurred elsewhere and it affected your settings. Additionally, there may have been other factors involved. If you can get a specific error message (if you're still having problems), please let us know and we'd be happy to help!

Thanks Arnel,
I have checked and rechecked the settings and they always worked before but now they don't and I haven't changed anything. I will try cyberduck and see if that shows were the problem is. It's very frustrating because I have been working on this for a week. I really appreciate your help!

Hi Monatone,

I just created a test ftp account under your domain and it works fine when I test it, so the server FTP system is working with no problems.

Let's break this down and hopefully make it easier for you to follow:

1) The USER NAME that you should be using is identical to the user name for your cPanel. This is not something that you set. You can find your cPanel user name here: How find your account technical information.

2)The user name in that article is set to "inmoti6". Your user name will resemble this format. This should be the SAME user name and password used to login to the cPanel. Make sure your user name is set correctly.

3)Additionally, you indicated that you put 'public_html' in the directory section, but the instructions state that entry should be blank. Please change this as well.

I hope this does the trick! I was able to confirm that FTP is definitely working on your account, so hopefully you will be able to confirm it on your end. Let us know if you need any further assistance!

So it still isn't working. cyberduck couldn't connect either so i guess something isn't set right but I can't figure out what it is. The message that I get from iweb says A connection to (my web site) couldn't be established. Verify your settings and try again.
I have the server address set to my website
user name is just like the inmotion hosting and so is the password.
the Directory/path is /public_html/ protocol: FTP port 21
not sure if any of this helps. let me know what I should change if you know.
thanks so much!

I tried everything that you said and it still isn't working. The user name is the same as the cpanel name and the password is the same. I left the directory/ path blank. Ugh! What can iot be? Should i try changing the password to see if that helps?

Hi again Monatone!

Sorry for the frustrations! If you're publishing a NEW website - not your primary domain name-, then you would need to make sure that the domain name is pointing to our hosting before you attempt to publish to it. Additionally, if you're publishing for an add-on domain, then settings will also be a little different. Check out the bottom of this article: Publishing with iWeb.

By the way, you can use this in place of the server name to publish: You should use this in place of the domain name if the domain name is not yet pointed to us.

Thanks again for your patience!

What if the site isn't pointing to the hosting site?
Please keep in mind, if your domain is not pointed to InMotion Hosting or you have not allowed 4 - 24 hours for propagation use your server name instead of your domain name. Your server name is shown as the Hostname in your account's Technical Details in AMP.

This isn't a new site or an add on. But it still isn't working even if I put this: in the server name. Ugh. I feel like we are doing everything right but it still isn't working.
